Life according to Bear Grylls

“One man’s garbage can be another man’s salvation”

“It’s such a privilege to be here.”

My brother recommended Bear Grylls to me.  He thought I would love it.  I did.

Here’s what I’ve learned watching Bear Grylls:

  1. Please remember what’s first: Protection, Rescue, Water and Food
  2. One of the most important things is to light a signal fire.
  3. Before setting out to sea you need supplies.
  4. You can build a three pronged spear out of a bird’s beak and a stick. This is an ideal hunting tool for crab.
  5. A knife in your sock can come in handy when adventuring.
  6. If you don’t have a lot of water handy eating a fish eye ball can help. Lots of fluid in it.
  7. The real battle for survival is in your mind and in your heart.
  8. To make it out alive you need the three f’s, Family, Faith and good friends.  It’s all about keeping your hope and your spirits high and that’s what Bear Grylls relies on.

As awesome and funny as this show is it contains some wisdom that we should all live by.

  • The important most important things in life are Faith, Family and Friends.
  • To survive we don’t need much in life.  We need food and water.  We need protection and shelter.  All the rest are extras.
  • The beauty that surrounds us in nature is not to be taken for granted.
  • The very real battles many of us face today lies in our mind and heart.  We can be our own worst enemy.

We can survive this crazy thing we call life. It’s an adventure and a gift.  Watching Bear Grylls is a great reminder that we all need to sit back and enjoy the ride.  After all, it could be worse.  I have so many blessings.  My family and friends are wonderful.  I have a home and work that I enjoy.  I get to spend my days with a wonderful little boy (who happens to be my son).  And if I really think about it, one of the better parts of my life might just be that I don’t have to give myself an enema while at lost at sea.

I have a lot to be thankful for.  A good thing to remember during this time of reflection.

  1. My husband and I enjoy watching Bear Grylls. We must have recently watched the same episode as you (enema at sea…yikes!). I really like how you pulled out the spiritual lessons that we can take from his survival tips.
